This is a site with very bright, colourful, interactive games for 3 different academic levels. Games are constructed like regular video games, except literacy skills are used to win them. They contain helpful voice prompts and instructions, instant feedback and incentives. Activities include identifying antonyms and synonyms, letter sound correspondence, sentence order, fact and fantasy, letter recognition, alphabetic order and more. There are good instructions, the site is user friendly, has incentives, instant feedback and is exciting and very interactive. Suitable for kindergarten to upper primary.

This site contains many interactive games and activities created by various subscribers to the site, for teaching specific literacy skills. Most seemed to be both educational and fun. Because activities are designed by different people they have different motivational and reward systems and there is a warning that some activities may contain mistakes, although none could be found. Activities can be copied for own use or used on the web page.

Activities include filling in irregular verbs; matching games, flashcards, concentration and word search for homonyms; matching parts of speech to definitions; choosing correct spelling; guessing the homograph; matching singular nouns to plurals; matching contractions and much, much more. This is an easy to use, fun and interactive sight suitable for lower and middle primary.

This section of the acclaimed BBC site is a wonderful resource for teachers to use in classrooms. Skillswise has been constructed to assist adult learners but the activities that are suggested would appeal to children. It is divided into Grammar, Spelling, Reading, Writing, Listening and Vocabulary. The section on Grammar has 10 different categories including work on tense, apostrophes, commas and sentence structure. Each category has a fact sheet, a worksheet, a game and a quiz. Suitable for middle primary, upper primary and lower secondary.

Funbrain has a wealth of wonderful activities in literacy and numeracy. This particular activity teaches children about parts of speech while they create their own ‘wacky tale’. Children are encouraged to add their own key words to create a customized tale. There are 20 tales to choose from. A very interactive site that provides immediate feedback. Suitable for middle and upper primary students.
