Reach for the Stars
Reach for the Stars is a national numeracy activity that has been part of National Literacy and Numeracy Week since 2003. The activity aimed at pre-school to junior secondary school students (Kindergarten to Year 9) is developed and managed by the Australian Association of Mathematics Teachers (AAMT), with funding from the Australian Government.
The activity provides an opportunity for students across Australia to get involved in a single event with a numeracy focus. Participating schools can win one of seven fantastic prizes (Terms and Conditions apply):
Two (2) MacBook laptop computers, rrp $2,218 each inc GST (includes 3 Year APP Warranty), from Apple Pty Ltd.
Five (5) packs containing ten (10) electronic Macquarie School Dictionaries , rrp for each pack is $999.50 inc GST, from Franklin Electronic Publishers.

National Reading Day is a mass participation literacy event for primary and secondary school students. This national activity encourages schools to select their own texts and to become involved in activities where they share their reading.
The activity is developed and managed by the Australian Association for the Teaching of English (AATE) and the Australian Literacy Educators' Association (ALEA) with funding from the Australian Government. Participating schools can win one of seven fantastic prizes (Terms and Conditions apply):
Two (2) libraries of 500 books each, rrp for each library is $7,000 inc GST, from Scholastic Australia.
Five (5) packs containing ten (10) electronic Macquarie School Dictionaries , rrp for each pack is $999.50 inc GST , from Franklin Electronic Publishers.

The Dorothea Mackellar Poetry Awards is a national poetry competition for school-aged students, conducted from Gunnedah in north-west NSW. It was initiated in honour of Dorothea Mackellar and her famous poem, My Country. This year is the 100th anniversary of the publication of the poem.
Entries should be posted on or before Monday 2 June 2008.The Awards will be announced at an award presentation ceremony in Gunnedah on Friday 5 September 2008.
