This is a new initiative to be negotiated in conjunction with representatives from each of the four government Learning Services, the Association of Independent Schools Tasmania and the Catholic Education Office. Professional learning workshops will be presented in each educational region during August and October. Teachers and schools from government and non-government sectors will participate equally in the events.
Partnerships in learning: professional conversations in literacy and numeracy
During August professional learning workshops will be held in each educational region. They will focus on sharing examples of good practice in a relatively informal atmosphere. Each program will be negotiated with representatives from the region so that the workshops cater directly to teachers’ interests and needs in literacy and numeracy.
Celebrations of literacy and numeracy in Tasmania
During October celebrations of this year’s achievements in literacy and numeracy will be held in each educational region. The program will showcase the successes that schools have had in 2008 and will include show and tell sessions from the winners of celebration grants.
Celebration grants in 2008
In conjunction with National Literacy and Numeracy Week, all schools in Tasmania catering for students up to year 10 can apply for a celebration grant of $1,500.
This is a state initiative designed to support local schools to showcase literacy and numeracy activities. The grants are awarded to schools to enable them to conduct a celebration, project or activity with a numeracy and / or literacy focus during National Literacy and Numeracy Week, which will be held from 1 – 7 September, 2008.
Celebration grants must connect with this year’s theme: Partnerships in Learning.
Schools which receive grants will prepare reports to be published on the website and sent out to schools in next year’s newsletter. They will also participate in the regional Celebrations of literacy and numeracy in Tasmania to be held in October.
