Man standing.

Simon Pampena, National Numeracy Ambassador 2011

My favourite mathematician in the world right now is a guy called Terence Tao. Now this guy is so good that other mathematicians try and lure him into their research if they are having trouble, because the guy can do anything.  He has got one of the fastest brains, he was a child protégé, which meant that he won gold medals at the Maths Olympics (that’s a real thing, by the way, the Maths Olympics) he won gold medals at 13. He is the youngest person ever to have done it.

And he is currently in his thirties, he is in his prime, he is a beautiful gift to the world, and he is Australian. That’s right.

Simon holds arms above head and punches the air.

Aussie, Aussie, Aussie Tao, Tao, Tao.

So I’m proud of him. I’m proud of him because he’s an Aussie, and also I think it’s wonderful because he actually is opening the door for a lot of research. He does a lot of stuff with prime numbers, numbers that are only divisible by themselves and one. He has worked out stuff that no one has ever known before and it is really exciting to read his stuff.

Gives a thumbs up.

So ,Terence Tao, good on you. Aussie.
